. it unfortunately happened in this situation, in this place, we're never hoping for a big, destructive system, but when there's the possibility of it bringing some heavy rainfall to places that desperately need it, you want it to happen. in this case, it did not. however, there is the possibility that we may see some development of a different system out in the atlantic. we're going to watch it. it's still days away from affecting anyone at all, and it may not happen at all, but we're still going to watch it for you very carefully. another thing we're watching that is dangerous potentially is the heat. the heat is still relentless across parts of the central plains and back in the midwest. also the northern half of the map, western great lakes, upper midwest, there is going to be a chance that we have some severe storms developing later in the day. severe thunderstorms, deadly lightning a possibility, large hail, maybe even some tornadoes late in the afternoon hours, perhaps even into the early evening. but heat is going to be the major thing that's going to be dangerous for people today. dal

. they do, however, believe she's no longer in central florida. when she left the jail, you saw the big crowds there. there were people yelling "killer" in that crowd as she got into the suv and left. there is a great deal of emotion still unresolved around this case. we saw a lot of people getting together who were doing something peaceful with those emotions over the weekend. they went to the site where caylee anthony's body was discovered and held a march from that site to the anthony home. all to remember the child whose death started all of this. it was a very solemn occasion. a lot of people walking in the street. at one point it was reported there were cars lined up on the road about a half mile long of people just parking on the roadside going into those woods where her body was discovered to go to that spot and remember that little girl. again, a great deal of emotion. people trying to process all of this on their own. but casey anthony at the moment is still staying out of the public eye even though she has a lot of legal entanglements she will still have to address in the mon

. >>> it will be a big day in the casey anthony murder trial. closing arguments in that murder trial is just a few hours away. court is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. eastern time. casey anthony, as you know, accused of murdering her 2-year-old daughter caylee yesterday. there was a vigil for caylee near the spot where her body was found. the case expected to go to the jury after closing arguments. this all began in late may. casey anthony facing seven charges, including capital murder. that means she could face the death penalty if she's found guilty. the defense and prosecution both wrapped up their cases last week. casey anthony decided not to testify in her own defense. more on that throughout the morning. >>> also, a jailhouse phone call is raising more questions about the accuser in the dominique strauss-kahn sexual assault case. the former chief of the international monetary fund was released from house arrest on friday. mr. strauss-kahn is accused of sexually assaulting a hotel maid and last week prosecutors said the accuser's story raised credibility questions. cnn national correspondent susan

. the big mistaking that had people thinking they had gotten the bargain of the year. >>> but first, here are your options. resign or be fired. that is the ultimatum that was just given to nearly 200 educators tied to one of the largest school cheating scandals in u.s. history. it was just over a week ago, a state investigation revealed 178 teachers, including 38 principals, woulding at 44 schools cheated for students on standardized tests in atlanta. on monday, interim superintendent erroll davis replaced four superintendents and one principal in the atlanta public school scandal. now a letter has been sent to the 178 teachers, principals and administrators who were on the state investigative report as either confessing to or being implicated in the cheating. davis has ordered that educators resign by next wednesday or they will face termination. he says the culture inside the school district has to change. >> people failed children, they cheated. and we can't allow that to happen and we can't allow anyone who was involved with that to remain in our system. >> now, staff replacement may

, i'm up, big. >> that's a great reference at 5:340. luke, i'm impressed. you must have been up and had your coffee. help us what's going on luke. you covered the hill every single day. people who watched this who aren't like us, kind of nerds following every moment of this get home from work and they say what happened exactly today, are we any further than we were. how can beget toward a deal by next tuesday? >> well, the big news that came out from yesterday was that john boehner was having a great difficult getting to 217 votes, the majority in his house on his plan to raise the debt ceiling. then he got bad news from the congressional budget office, which is a non-partisan budget office that scores these bills which says that his plan, which claimed to have saved over a trillion dollars in spending over the next ten years really only saved about $850 billion. so it didn't save nearly as much as he said it did and it actually back ended a lot of the savings. so in the first few years there was only about $5 billion worth of savings which is not acceptable to a lot of the tea

at a sleepover allie rasmus is live with more, including the soda that's becoming a big part of the investigation. >> reporter: we're live in santa rosa. this agency is investigating the 14-year-old's death. now, the four girls at the sleepover, including the victim, said they passed around a soda that taste strange. the sheriff's office determined there was an unknown substance to it. the teens were at a sleepover at a home and all four got sick during the night. they started throwing up after they drank the soda. at first, the parents thought it was food poisoning, but then on sunday, one of them would not wake up. they called paramedics. and they determined she died. the crime investigations unit are looking into the death. a cause of death for that 14- year-old girl has not been determined yet. we've put in requests with sherr 6 investigators to find out -- sherr 6 investigators to find out where they are with the -- with the investigation. back to you. >> thank you. >>> pleasant hill police say they have two men in custody who may have used clone debit cards to rob bay area atms. officers fo

and what doesn't get paid. another big story right now, a massive and dangerous heat wave is gripping much of the nation. here's how it looks and feels across the country. take a look at the red quarter. temperatures expected to reach 104 degrees in parts of texas today, in the southeast, temperatures are expected to reach the upper 90s and more than just uncomfortable, it's dangerous. heat has already claimed the life of at least one person in illinois and adding to that, the heat is causing drought conditions in the deep south to intensify. also this morning, hundreds of thousands still without power in the chicago area after strong thunderstorms rolled through. officials warn the power there might not be back on until saturday. let's go live to rob marciano outdoors this morning, silly rob, in atlanta's piedmont park. sun still not up, so it's still probably manageable there. but a lot of the south waking up this morning to 80 degrees overnight or higher. >> yeah. that's the thing. really hasn't cooled down much overnight, ali. even if you're out before the sun comes up you're still fee
